The Mathews County road cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday.

Ann Miller, director of the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center, said MCVIC will be open early at 8 a.m. for coffee and light refreshments prior to volunteers proceeding to their designated locations for the road cleanup.

"With Thanksgiving and the Made in Mathews Open Studio Tour fast approaching, we always like to be sure that our roadways and ditches are free of litter," Miller said. "We encourage residents to help with the cleanup in any way they can."

Orange vests and trash bags will also be available at MCVIC. Miller said the visitor’s center will notify VDOT to pick up trash bags if someone at MCVIC is notified with the location and number of bags to be collected.
