Gloucester’s next general reassessment will stay on track for Jan. 1, 2013, despite a recommendation from the county’s reassessment committee and new assessor to extend the date of completion one year.

Rod Compton, Gloucester’s new assessor, provided an update to the county’s board of supervisors Tuesday night on the reassessment process and provided the governing body with several options to move forward.

The first option, he said, is to proceed with the scheduled reassessment date of Jan. 1, 2013. Pros of this option include meeting the deadlines and delivering a product that is more explainable to county citizens. Some other areas in the process can also be improved in that time frame, he said.

"However, since data input would be the same, a product will be delivered very similar to what you had in 2010," Compton said. That product had a high rate of appeals and board of equalization appeals, as many residents expressed concern that their property was valued much higher than what the current market reflected.
