The Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club held its 2011 American Radio Relay League Field Day program on June 24-26 at Beaverdam Park. Field Day is a 24-hour broadcasting exercise during which most stations operate under emergency power such as battery power with backup generators simulating an emergency. Here, Joe Safranek and his grandson, 8-year-old Tyler Safranek, take their turn broadcasting.
