Power lines, roads restored following storm

Roads and electricity are finally getting back to normal, after closures and outages hit Gloucester residents in the wake of Saturday’s storm.
Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Kelly Hannon said that 112 VDOT employees, as well as 39 contract workers, responded to Gloucester and Middlesex counties immediately after the tornados passed over the area.
VDOT drew equipment and manpower from 16 of its 18 offices in the 14-county Fredericksburg District, as well as from seven contractors. "We mobilized everything we could" to get the roads passable for first responders to get into the areas hardest hit, Hannon said.
All of the roads in Middlesex and Gloucester counties were clear and open to traffic as of Wednesday morning, Hannon said. Hickory Fork Road from Route 17 to Cedar Bush Road was closed earlier this week, as was a section of Route 33 in Deltaville.
