The Gloucester Point Library will have a new home once the lease on its current facility expires on Aug. 6. The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted 5-2 during its regular meeting Tuesday night in the colonial courthouse to approve a lease agreement to house the branch in the York River Crossing shopping center.

The area the county will be leasing is near where the Sentara Health Center was formerly housed, according to Garrey Curry, the county’s public works director.

Ted Wilmot, Gloucester’s county attorney, said the owner of the prospective property had a tax appeal for this property, which eventually led to a lawsuit against the county seeking a reduction of the assessed value of the property. Wilmot said the property owner and the Commissioner of the Revenue have agreed upon a tax assessment for the property through 2012, although the lawsuit has not been settled formally.

Abingdon district supervisor Buddy Rilee and at-large supervisor Michelle Ressler voted against entering into the lease agreement.
