Planners to hold hearing on broadband ordinance

The Gloucester County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing next Thursday, March 3, about a broadband ordinance.
The hearing will begin at 7:45 p.m. in the colonial courthouse. The regular meeting starts at 7:30.
Following staff recommendations for a broadband ordinance, the commission voted at its Feb. 3 meeting to schedule a public hearing. Commissioners Phillip Bazzani, Mark Holthaus, Mark Strawn, Laurence Wilkinson and Michael Winebarger were absent.
One of the additions to the ordinance the commission endorsed was a definition for a commercial communications facility, Type VI, or data pole, which can have an antenna not to exceed 120 feet high. While such communications facilities would be allowed in all zoning districts, their placement would require a special exception permit in the SF-1 district and on existing lots under 30,000 square feet.
