Outside firm to evaluate reassessment

Gloucester County will contract with the International Association of Assessing Officers for an evaluation of how it conducted its first in-house general reassessment and what direction it should take with its next assessment. The contract will cost the county approximately $35,000-$40,000.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors discussed the matter during a special meeting Monday night in the Gloucester Library Community Room. The board explored several options, including extending the timeframe for the next reassessment at least another year.

Despite a unanimous recommendation from the county’s in-house reassessment team to extend its assessment cycle by at least one year, Gloucester will remain on schedule for the end of 2011, or until it receives the consultant’s report.

One supervisor in particular was agitated by the idea that the next assessment might be extended. "I can’t justify doing another year," said At-large supervisor Michelle Ressler. "It’s just an excuse… Either make a decision and do it, or keep muddling through it."
