A formal investiture ceremony was held last Thursday in Gloucester Circuit Court for Judge Cressondra B. Conyers, the new presiding judge for the Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts. Conyers, with her husband, Anthony Conyers Jr., by her side and her son, Christopher Willis, holding the Bible, was ceremonially sworn in by Hampton Circuit Court Judge Wilford Taylor Jr. Judges, lawyers and other well-wishers packed the third-floor courtroom, with an overflow audience watching from closed circuit television on the second floor. Conyers was elected in May by the Virginia General Assembly to replace Judge Isabell AtLee, who retired after 16 years on the bench. Conyers, who most recently served as chief deputy commonwealth’s attorney for Williamsburg/James City County, began hearing cases in the 9th Judicial District on July 2. Photo by Charlie Koenig
