New commissioner encounters some glitches on first day at work

Mathews County residents who have DMV business to conduct with the commissioner of the revenue may not be able to get everything done for the next few days.

Newly elected commissioner of the revenue Les Hall said on Tuesday that the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ computers were down because DMV requires that Hall be authorized as commissioner before his employees can perform their duties. That could take a few days, he said, because it’s dependent on the person at DMV who handles the authorization process.

The Mathews County Commissioner of the Revenue’s office is a DMV Select site, which can handle vehicle titles and registrations, license plate orders and other transactions.

In addition, Hall said that when he arrived for his first day on the job, the county’s computers weren’t working right. None of the computers could access the property values and mapping system, he said, and the computer in his office was missing its e-mail program.
