MPPDC increases dues paid by localities

The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission has voted to increase its dues structure to cover more completely the actual services provided to member localities, acting executive director Lewis Lawrence said.

Lawrence said the MPPDC board, meeting Oct. 26 at commission headquarters in Saluda, decided to support a higher dues structure beginning in July 2012, which would be for Fiscal Year 2013. Each of the six member counties, including Gloucester and Mathews, now pays $10,000 per year as its contribution, Lawrence said, which is proposed to rise to $15,700 in the next fiscal year and to $20,890 in FY2014.

Meanwhile, Lawrence said the commission approved a separate rate for the three towns of Tappahannock, West Point and Urbanna. Each of the towns would pay, under the new plan, $5,233 for FY 2013 and $6,993 for FY 2014, up from the current $3,333.

On a separate issue, MPPDC adopted a public participation procedure for its meetings. Lawrence said that the Middlesex building official has set the capacity of the board room at 36 people, with total building capacity of 50 people.
