MPPDC considers economic development strategy
The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission is working toward implementation of a regional economic development strategy, acting executive director Lewis Lawrence said Aug. 1.
The commission discussed a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Grant during a meeting July 27 at its Saluda offices. The $60,000 federal grant requires a $60,000 MPPDC match, Lawrence said.
The grant will help with planning for what investments should be made for regional economic development efforts, Lawrence said. The grant may cover infrastructure needs, business park locations, and other topics, he said, and the commission will discuss the grant further at its regular September meeting.
On a separate matter, regional projects planner Clara Meier presented an update on the water supply plan adoption process. Lawrence said the state is requiring each locality to file a water supply plan, which will be useful in long-range planning and in times of drought.
Lawrence said localities are to submit a water supply plan to the state by Nov. 1.
