MPPDC adopts strategic plan

The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission approved a strategic report during a meeting April 27 at its headquarters in Saluda.

The draft report had been discussed during a commission retreat in March, but no final plan was decided upon at that time, executive director Lewis Lawrence said.

This strategic plan "comes at a time of major transition for the commission—the departure of its long-time executive director (Dan Kavanagh), a significant shift in its near-term funding and the likely potential for serious staff downsizing are all in play at this time," the report stated.

"These transitions, and their impact on the MPPDC, have created a need for a fundamental reset in the organization’s approach to its work."

It is important, the report said, that the MPPDC board members "provide forward-looking leadership in regional planning, development and government collaboration." Also, the board should work to "strengthen the long-term financial and organizational stability of the PDC."
