MPPDC adopts long-range transportation plan

The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission accepted a long-range transportation plan during a meeting Jan. 25 at its Saluda headquarters.

The plan is intended as a regional and local transportation planning tool, said regional project planner Clara Meier. Localities can use components in updating their individual six-year road improvement lists, she said.

The plan includes 20 detailed study locations throughout the six counties and three towns the commission serves, Meier said. Three of the targeted projects are in Gloucester, while three others are in Mathews. Meier said the commission did not rank the projects in terms of which order they should be completed, noting that many recommendations came out of discussions on this "hot spot" list.

The Gloucester roadway detailed study locations include Route 606 (Fary’s Mill Road), from Route 198 in Harcum to Route 17 in Ark; Route 610 (Pinetta Road), and Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road) to Belroi Road, and Route 198 (Glenns Road and Dutton Road), from Route 17 at Glenns to the Mathews County line. These roadways were high on the list either because of high number of traffic accidents or because of local input they should be studied for various reasons, Meier said.
