Firefighters battle a structure fire that occurred Saturday afternoon on Cherokee Trail at Wicomico. According to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad spokesperson Robert Parlett, the first units to arrive reported a vehicle fully involved and a mobile home also on fire. “The fire was fueled by leaking gasoline from the car,” Parlett said. “Work on the car was the probable cause for the fire.” He said the fire was brought under control quickly by the first arriving engine. No injuries were reported. AVFRS responded with two engines, a rescue truck and 16 volunteers. Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., also responded with mutual aid.
