Boy Scouts from Troop 124 got a chance to learn the criminal justice system first-hand when they played the part of prosecutors, defense attorneys and others in a mock trial, which was held on Dec. 14 in Mathews Circuit Court. Billy John, at right, and Gregg Michel assist Commonwealth’s Attorney Jack Gill with the state’s case, while Patrick Pugh and Zachary Foss, from left, work on defense strategies. The boys spent approximately six weeks preparing for the mock trial, which was about a gang member selling drugs to a minor within 1,000 feet of a school. Retired Circuit Court Judge William H. Shaw III presided over the trial. Photo by Dana West.
