Traffic concerns in and around Gloucester’s Main Street were addressed at a public meeting Monday night.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and Gloucester County held the meeting to present findings on the Route 17 Business Corridor transportation study. Among suggestions were erecting a traffic signal near an entrance to Main Street Center and placing a roundabout at the irregular intersection of Belroi Road at Main.

The meeting included an approximately 30-minute formal presentation by consultants and an opportunity before and after the talk for the approximately two dozen residents and government officials to ask questions.

No final decisions were made at the meeting, said Craig Van Deusen, district planner for VDOT, but he expects consultant HNTB Corporation to submit a final report by mid-May. Then, VDOT will arrange for the final report to be presented formally during a Gloucester County Board of Supervisors meeting.

Planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz said that the final recommendations, when presented, will help with the county’s long-range transportation. However, VDOT residency administrator Sean Trapani said before the meeting that there are no funds currently in place to conduct any of the construction options.
