The Gloucester Court House Village Sub-Area Plan will promote ideas such as living spaces above storefronts and the infilling of vacant areas along Main Street.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors, following a public hearing in the colonial courthouse, unanimously approved the Gloucester Court House Village Sub-Area Plan. This village plan will be included with Gloucester’s overall comprehensive plan.

Prior to the public hearing, Gloucester’s planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz said she was really pleased with how the plan turned out, which was a collaborative effort between the county and the Main Street Preservation Trust.

The plan, which has involved several months of planning and community outreach, involves three main concepts.

The first is connectivity, which will seek to encourage more sidewalks, walking and biking trails, Ducey-Ortiz said. It will also seek to link the Court House to the rest of the county with better connections of all kinds.

The second concept is preservation, which will focus on recognizing the importance of maintaining the historic and cultural amenities within and around the village.
