Library branch opening moved to early October

Gloucester County may receive the keys to its new library branch at Hayes by the end of August, library director Diane Rebertus said Thursday.

However, because of delays in the building being readied for county use, the new branch may not be opened to the public until early October—about a month later than originally projected.

After the county receives the keys to the building it will lease at York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes, a company will deliver and install shelves for books and other equipment. Gloucester has contracted with Melos, a company that specializes in library supplies, to prepare the shelves.

Rebertus said there were some delays in shelves, books and other equipment being ready because of high demand this time of year from other libraries. Many are rushing to complete projects prior to the start of the new school term.

Only minor touches remain to be completed at the branch location, Rebertus said. The space previously housed a floral shop and part of a medical clinic.
