Residents and property owners of Mathews and Middlesex counties will have an opportunity on Saturday to clean out their kitchen and bath cabinets, sheds, garages and attics.

Household chemicals will be accepted at a collection, to be held at the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department at 3309 Twiggs Ferry Road, in Hartfield, from 8 a.m. to noon.

The collection, sponsored by Mathews County, Middlesex County and the Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority (VPPSA), will provide an outlet for materials not accepted at the transfer stations or convenience centers. The collection is open to all residents and property owners of Mathews and Middlesex counties at no cost. Proof of residency or property ownership will be required.

Household chemicals to be accepted include paints, stains and solvents; old gasoline and other fuels, gas and oil mixtures, brake fluid, hydraulic fluid, engine cleaners, solvents and lubricants; insecticides, pesticides, weed killers and fertilizers; drain cleaners, oven cleaners, bleaches and other cleaning products; and charcoal fluids, pool chemicals and fluorescent light bulbs, including compact fluorescent light bulbs.

All computers and accessories, telephones, DVD or VCR players, cameras, video games and consoles, iPods or MP3 players and miscellaneous household electronics will be accepted.
