Urbanna resident Keith Hodges is the Republican nominee for the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, following Tuesday’s primary election. Hodges drew nearly 41 percent of the vote, well ahead of Gloucester residents Sherwood Bowditch (27 percent), Catesby Jones and Ken Gibson (roughly 16 percent each).

With the victory, Hodges will now face off against Democrat Andrew Shoukas in the Nov. 8 general election. Hodges, owner of Gloucester Pharmacy, defeated his nearest opponent by 1,240 votes out of 8,900 votes cast in the open primary.

Hodges received a total of 3,643 votes to Bowditch’s 2,403. Following Bowditch was Jones with 1,459 total votes and Gibson with 1,395 votes.

Hodges said Wednesday morning he appreciates the support from all of the voters throughout the district, as well as each of the candidates and their time and effort that was put into the campaign. "I really enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them," Hodges said.

"We ran a clean and positive campaign," he added, "and at the end of the day, I believe the voters saw and appreciated that and made their choice based on that."
