Harmful waste collection to be held Saturday
The spring collection of harmful household chemicals and waste will be held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday in Gloucester. The collection will take place at the convenience center at the entrance to the Middle Peninsula Landfill & Recycling Center at Owl Trap.
"The household harmful waste collection program is the best way to rid your home of hazardous items in a way that is safe for your family, community, and the environment," said Gloucester Clean Community coordinator Bill Bell.
This event, being coordinated by the Gloucester Clean Community Committee in cooperation with Waste Management, gives an opportunity for Gloucester residents to dispose of waste such as automotive antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, gasoline and gasoline mixtures, and automotive and marine batteries. In addition, residents can drop off paint and painting supplies including thinners, solvents, explosives and wood preservatives.
Don’t forget the lawn chemicals, Bell said Monday, as old pesticides and other lawn chemicals are often brought to these twice-annual collections in large quantities. Also, residents can drop off toxic household cleaners, drain cleaners, mercury, pool chemicals, computers and monitors.
