Ground broken Tuesday on G.I. Museum expansion
Gwynn’s Island Civic League president Tom Edwards said the project has been an example of the "wonderful, charitable" residents of Gwynn’s Island and Mathews County.
The expansion, which will include more room for exhibit space and 120 square feet of office space, is set to be completed later this summer, with a price tag of just under $70,000.
"I firmly believe the Gwynn’s Island Museum is a treasure of Virginia," Edwards said. "I’m proud to be associated with the community’s work."
The idea of expansion began under the tenure of past Gwynn’s Island Civic League president Art Dubey. Knowing the need for expansion, Dubey spoke with Roz and John Nygren, who donated the property behind the museum needed for its expansion. "We would have been unable to expand without it," Dubey said Tuesday.
