Grant for Main Street improvements moves forward
A community development block grant that would fund up to $700,000 in improvements to Mathews Main Street structures and/or infrastructure has moved another step forward.
Mathews County Planning and Zoning director John Shaw said his department has issued a request for proposals to provide planning services for the grant.
Those services will be paid for with funds from a $35,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development that the county has already received as part of the ongoing grant application process.
The planning services would include an economic restructuring plan to analyze such things as regional competition, what steps might be taken to enhance the area’s economic viability, and what types of business assistance training might be of value to Main Street merchants, said Shaw.
