Virginia’s Republican primary is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12. All voting precincts in Gloucester and Mathews will be open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. and any registered voter may participate in the primary.

In Gloucester, voters will have an opportunity to cast their ballots for the Republican candidate for sheriff that will face off against independent challengers in the Nov. 6 general election.

Darrell Warren, who took over as sheriff after Steve Gentry resigned just weeks after he won a second term citing personal reasons, will face off against Jim Ledbetter Jr., a former lieutenant with the GSO.

In statewide elections, voters will have an opportunity to cast their ballots for the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim Webb. Candidates for the Republican nomination are Jamie Radtke of Chesterfield, former Gov. George Allen of Henrico, Del. Bob Marshall of Manassas and E.W. Jackson of Chesapeake.

First District Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Montross) is unopposed for his party’s nomination for Congress.

About the candidates: Sheriff

Warren has served in law enforcement in Gloucester County for more than 20 years. He said he is committed to working with the residents and business owners in a transparent and inclusive way to identify neighborhood problems and improve quality of life.
