Gloucester’s Main Street will be a little more festive this year. For the first time in many years, lampposts along Main will be adorned with greenery for the holidays. The decorating is a joint effort involving the Garden Club of Gloucester, Walter Reed Garden Club, Gloucester Sheriff’s Office and the Main Street Preservation Trust.

According to volunteer Carol White, 40 lampposts were decorated Monday, all thanks to support from local merchants.

"It’s been wonderful," White said, speaking of the efforts of many private individuals and businesses. "It’s really wonderful to watch Main Street be decorated and know this is how we did it."

Volunteers have been working on the project since the summer, White said. A lot of time was spent on logistics and planning for the project. Volunteers with both garden clubs started making the arrangements last week. "This is a gift to the community," she added.
