Gloucester County should be a busy place this fall, with a number of special events being planned, tourism coordinator Hilton Snowdon said.

"The fall is a time of welcoming cool and colorful changes of seasons, festivals, events and happenings from one end of Gloucester County to the other," Snowdon said. These events, he said, will offer visitors and residents "experiences to satisfy any urge."

Some of the events are geared for mostly local attendance, while others—such as the third annual Ride the Dragon bike tours on Oct. 13—have been heavily advertised in other parts of the state and should draw many out-of-towners.

Among September events are a Civil War Prisoner Exchange, sponsored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, to be held Sept. 27-28 on the court circle and the 33rd annual Guinea Jubilee at Bena in Sept. 28-29,.

In October, the Gloucester calendar includes Gloucester Main Street Blues and Brews on Oct. 6, the third annual Gloucester Wine Festival, presented by the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs on Oct. 27, and the Gloucester History Crawl on Oct. 27, presented by the Fairfield and Rosewell foundations and the Joseph Bryan Branch of Preservation Virginia.
