The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 3 during its regular meeting in the colonial courthouse on a resolution to dissolve the Gloucester Task Force on Community Concerns, which said it had successfully addressed its major tasks.

According to At-large board member Michelle Ressler, who chaired the task force, the group, formerly called the Gloucester Methamphetamine Task Force, had been discussing its future and purpose for the past six months.

Ressler said the task force voted unanimously at its July 12 meeting to recommend to the board that the group be dissolved.

In a letter to the board of supervisors, Ressler wrote, "The Gloucester Task Force on Community Concerns has successfully addressed the area of education and public awareness on community issues of methamphetamines, gangs and domestic violence. It is the opinion of those task force members who regularly attend the meetings that further involvement in issues would duplicate the work of present agencies and that present scheduling conflicts make it difficult for regular attendance of all members."

She continued, "Those members in attendance at the July 12, 2010 meeting wish to convey that this recommendation comes only after numerous meetings where the future and purpose of the task force was considered with much deliberation and discussion."

Members that regularly attended the meetings asked that active agencies and active community members of the task force be considered for any future reactivation.

Finally, Ressler said that although the task force recommended it be dissolved, it had decided to have its webpage revamped to contain information on educational sites and local points of contact for information on methamphetamines, gangs and domestic violence for the citizens of Gloucester County.
