Gloucester Point resident to watch nephew wrestle in Olympics

Coleman Scott
Coleman Scott, a 2008 NCAA wrestling champion, earned the final spot on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team following a wrestle-off last month in Times Square in New York City. Scott’s mother is Mary Witt Scott, Witt’s sister and a 1974 graduate of Gloucester High School.
Scott was a three-time Pennsylvania state champion when he wrestled for Waynesburg Central High School. From there, he went to Oklahoma State University, where he was a four-time All American for the Cowboys. He will be competing in the 132 lbs. (60 kg.) freestyle wrestling class at the Olympics.
Witt won’t just be watching the Olympics on TV, he will be heading to London on Aug. 8 to see his nephew wrestle and then stay for the closing ceremonies on Aug. 12.
“I don’t know when I’ll get the chance” to see another relative compete in the Olympics, he said. Although, he added, that he does have 36 nieces and nephews, so “I’ve got a large pool to draw from.”
