A 35-year-old Gloucester man remained hospitalized this week after he was twice struck by vehicles while lying in the roadway Saturday night.

State trooper James Reynolds said Clifford Riddett of New Hope Court was lying in the southbound lanes of Route 17 in the 4200 block near Lighthouse Worship Center at approximately 9:40 p.m. He said Riddett was struck by a Toyota Tercel driven by a Gloucester resident and then by a Porsche Boxster operated by a Williamsburg resident.

Reynolds said Riddett was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with major injuries and was in stable condition as of Tuesday. He said it is not known why Riddett was in the roadway. Reynolds said the accident is still under investigation and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the local state police office at 693-6808.
