Gloucester Library gets new director

Diane M. Rebertus, Gloucester’s new director of library services, wants the library to become more of a "community place."

To that end, Rebertus said during an interview Monday, she wants to expand programming, tailoring offerings for more than one age sector, such as teens and adults possibly sharing more programs of interest. She plans to work closely with Gloucester schools to promote library programs and services, always looking for improved ways to share services.

Rebertus said she plans to continue operating a bookmobile, but deferred comments on plans for a new branch at Gloucester Point after its present lease expires next fall. She said the library is in "good shape," with adequate staffing and a good main facility.

People pay taxes and having a good quality library is one of the benefits, said Rebertus, who began her employment with the Gloucester Library on Sept. 1. Marge Jones, the library’s cataloguer, had served as acting library director for approximately eight months.
