Gloucester enhances on-demand viewing of county board meetings

Gloucester County has taken an additional step in its goal of higher transparency through establishing real-time streaming and on-demand viewing of all county board of supervisors, school board and planning commission meetings on its website, www.gloucesterva.info.

The new feature was presented to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors during its meeting Tuesday night in the colonial courthouse.

The effort will not cost any taxpayer money, according to Gloucester County spokesperson Christi Lewis, as the expenses are covered from cable franchise fees Cox Communications passes on to the county. The funds from these fees are used to enhance the county’s communications to its citizens as much as possible.

Scott Varner, with Gloucester’s technology department, said the feature will allow residents to view a board agenda for a given meeting, and click on each agenda item to allow them to view that specific portion of the meeting. "We’re taking the sunshine laws to another level in Gloucester," Varner said.
