Gloucester BZA to consider roller rink request
The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals will hold one public hearing during a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the main library in Main Street Center.
Applicant Laurie B. Mason for White Marsh Properties, LLC, property owner, is seeking a special exception for establishment of a recreation and amusement enterprise for a roller rink/family entertainment center at White Marsh Shopping Center.
The applicant is also requesting a variance of 380 feet to special criteria criterion "C," which requires that all "activities shall be conducted at least 500 feet from any residential district." The shopping center backs onto Piney Swamp Road and houses located along that road.
The property is located off George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) in the York Magisterial District and is zoned Business (B-1).
"I believe a roller rink/family entertainment center in the White Marsh Shopping Center will offer great family entertainment for Gloucester County and the surrounding areas," said Nick Nolte, who wrote in a March 26 letter to Gloucester zoning staff that "my family and I have been in the roller skating business for over 50 years." His family owns Plaza Roller Rink, located on East Pembroke Avenue in Hampton.
