Gibbs to serve as parade grand marshal
“I just hope everybody thinks I’m worthy of it,” she said.
Ann Miller, co-chair of the parade committee, along with Jo Ann Mulvany and Brenda Baker, thinks Gibbs is plenty worthy. Miller said she and the other committee members had known right away that they wanted to honor Gibbs this year.
“She does more in the county than just about anybody I know,” said Miller. “She’s out there doing things like a phantom and doesn’t take any credit for it. She’s amazing.”
Gibbs is the cafeteria manager for Mathews County Public Schools, and she has a reputation for creating delicious, healthful and affordable meals. But she takes her culinary abilities a few steps further. She also oversees the Meals on Wheels program for the Mathews Active Lifestyle Center; she volunteers at the YMCA, using her culinary skills to help raise funds; and she is constantly involved in some fundraising dinner for some other local organization or sports team or individual who’s fallen on hard times.
Miller gave as an example a fundraiser Gibbs had for the high school wrestling team.
