Gloucester and Mathews teams preparing.
Although the start of the school year is still weeks away, the Gloucester (above) and Mathews (below) football teams are hard at work preparing for the coming season. Each squad fielded about 70 players for the varsity and jayvee squads. Mathews has had a jump on practice, starting on Aug. 2, while the Dukes just began on Monday. Mathews begins its regular season on Aug. 27 when the team travels to Amelia. Gloucester’s season starts at home against Phoebus on Sept. 2.
