The Gloucester County Wetlands Board held its longest meeting in recent memory on July 11, sitting in the colonial courthouse for four-and-a-half hours to consider six wetlands applications and seven Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance exceptions.

Evan R. Farmer was granted permission to construct 300 linear feet of rock revetment with a 15- return adjacent to property situated along the York River at 4234 Gum Point Lane. Permit technician Linda Walthall said Farmer also received the unanimous go-ahead to construct three 65-foot breakwaters (two feet plus mean high water), 1,200 cubic yards of beach nourishment, with 1,800 square feet of Spartina patens. A private pier extension did not fall under the purview of the wetlands board.

On a separate application, Thomas Simmons was allowed to extend existing bulkhead 7’9’’ because of removal of concrete boat ramp. The property is situated along the York River at 3887 Old Concord Road. The board voted 7-0 in favor of the Simmons application, with the amendment of retaining a 10’ wide portion of the ramp to remain extending as a groin.

The board unanimously approved two other projects as presented:

—Michael Martin was allowed to remove old bulkhead and install 56 linear feet of vinyl and timber bulkhead and construct a 48 linear foot vinyl and timber groin adjacent to property situated along the York River at 3873 Old Concord Road;
