Members of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue work to extricate a driver of one of the trucks involved in a five-vehicle accident Thursday morning on southbound Route 17 near the intersection of Woodside Drive. Two people were trapped in their vehicles, according to Robert Parlett, AVFR public information officer. AVFR sent two ambulances and Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and York County each sent one unit. A total of five patients were sent to area hospitals with various injuries, Parlett said. AVFR photo
