Few comments received on Gloucester’s budget proposal

In a sparsely-attended meeting Monday night, Gloucester residents had the opportunity to address supervisors on the county’s proposed $108.4 million fiscal year 2012 budget.
There were approximately 40 people in the Gloucester High School auditorium, many of whom were school personnel and county staff. Seven people spoke about their concerns with the budget.
"The general public is fully aware these are tight times. That is why a lot of people are not here because of that," York district supervisor Carter Borden said, following the public hearing.
He said he knows retired people and others in the county are in the same boat with health insurance increases, changes in taxes and more. "People are making $100-$200 less a month," Borden said, "and people who have a job should be proud of their job."
Ware district resident Kristen Collier spoke about Gloucester’s school system. "I support the school board’s budget," she said. "As a product of the Gloucester school system, I find our school system good. I’m not wowed by it, but I think it is good."
