Daffodils are popping up all over Gloucester. That means it’s almost time for the 61st annual Daffodil Show, sponsored by the Garden Club of Gloucester.

The show will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, coinciding with the county’s Daffodil Festival. This year’s show is moving to a new location, from its traditional spot at Page Middle School to Ware Academy.

The Daffodil Show is accredited by the American Daffodil Society and is one of the largest daffodil shows on the East Coast, according to a release. Over a thousand daffodils in all shapes, colors and sizes from over a hundred growers will be on display in one room.

The public is encouraged to enter specimens in the judged horticulture division or simply stop by for a close-up view of the daffodils, including a display by Brent and Becky’s Bulbs in Ware Neck.

For novice exhibitors, club members will be on hand from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday to offer individual help with identifying daffodils and displaying daffodils for judging. On Saturday and Sunday, club members will conduct tours to discuss how the artistic division is interpreted and to provide basics of growing and showing daffodils. There will be a Brent and Becky daffodil given to all tour participants, said the release.

The show’s artistic division features flower arranging, using daffodils to interpret a theme chosen by the show chairs. This year the theme is "Color Your Imagination."

Chairs of the 2011 Daffodil Show are Marianne Bowles and Jean Johnson. The youth division chair is Nina Watkins. Additional information, including the full show schedule, can be viewed online at http://gloucesterdaffodils.blogspot.com.
