BZA approves Glenns, Point business applications

The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals approved two business applications during a meeting Aug. 23 at the Gloucester Library in Main Street Center.

C.W. Davis, owner of C.W. Davis Construction, Inc., property owner, applied for a special exception to establish a contractor’s office and storage facility for a contractor engaged in building and construction trades. Davis, a member of the BZA, abstained from the vote on that application, which passed 5-0, with member James Newton absent.

Codes compliance director Ron Peaks said the special exception was sought for property Davis already uses for an asphalt plant and a concrete plant, located at C.W. Davis Way near Rappahannock Community College, Glenns. The property is in the Petsworth Magisterial District and is zoned Rural Countryside (RC-1).

One nearby property owner had questions about the applicant’s plans, but did not oppose the project, Peaks said. The board said Davis can proceed with his project but the facility and use must be established within 60 months of the date of approval. The board also required the applicant to have downward facing exterior lighting at the property and to retain a 100-foot wooded buffer.

Following a separate public hearing, the board considered the application of Teresa Romesburg for The Used Car Company, tenant, for Michael Paul Sawyer, property owner, for variances to property that now houses a used car lot. That application was approved 6-0, with Davis taking part in that vote and Newton absent.
