Businesses express concern over Fox Mill Run bridge work

During a VDOT information meeting at the Gloucester Library in Main Street Center, located only yards from where the proposed construction project will take place, VDOT area project administrator David Steele said the bridge replacement project will cost approximately $4 million. Improvements are planned to replace the existing structure to improve public safety, he said, as that two-lane bridge is functionally obsolete.
As planned, VDOT expects that construction will begin on the bridge replacement project in October, said Steve Waldron, construction engineer for the Saluda Residency. The project is to be completed by late September 2012, he said.
While the bridge is being replaced, Waldron said all traffic through that corridor will use the northbound Fox Mill bridge for part of the time. That bridge was upgraded several years ago, Steele said, but the first phase of the southbound bridge project will involve fixing the shoulders at the northbound bridge and replacing guardrails there.
