Meeting Tuesday to discuss business in lower Gloucester

Gloucester Point District Supervisor Robert "Bobby" Crewe will hold a town meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abingdon Elementary School cafeteria to discuss ways to improve the business community in lower Gloucester County.

Crewe said the meeting is aimed at all business owners and other interested persons who are located from White Marsh Post Office through Gloucester Point.

This meeting is a continuation of two previously held meetings to discuss ways to promote, unite and sustain business in the Gloucester Point area, said Christi Lewis, director of community education, who is helping to arrange the meeting.

Crewe said that tax incentives could help businesses in the lower county. Another avenue might be formation of a business association there, he said.

John Phillips, chairman of the Gloucester County Economic Development Authority, said that the county already has some steps underway, such as a Virginia Institute of Marine Science initiative, which might spur business development in the lower county. Phillips encouraged business owners to attend this meeting to help identify possible solutions to improve the economic picture in lower Gloucester so it can rebound from the tough economic times of the past several years.

For more information about the meeting, call the Community Ed office at 693-5730.
