Bohannon P.O. closed indefinitely
Bohannon Post Office, which opened in 1887, has been closed indefinitely by the U.S. Postal Service because of a personnel issue.
As of March 3, all collection and delivery of mail for Bohannon patrons and all retail services will be handled by Foster Post Office on Rt. 14, said Cathy A. Boulé, communications coordinator for the U.S. Postal Service.
Customers who wish to continue general delivery service with a Bohannon address must do so at the Foster Post Office, she said. They also have the option of receiving mail in a curbside box at their residence. Anyone already receiving mail that way will experience no change in service, she said.
Boulé said the office suspension was necessary because USPS currently has no qualified replacement for former Bohannon postmaster Nancy Smith, and declined further comment.
Asked whether the postal service intends to search for a replacement for Smith and reopen the Bohannon Post Office, Boulé said "it is uncertain at this time."
