Gloucester County has many opportunities for summertime recreational activities to interest everyone, regardless of age or physical fitness. The county has many parks that are accessible to the public, and there are a wide variety of activities to experience at each of the parks.
Both visitors to the area and residents looking to recreate within the community can find a wide variety of activities to try at the parks of Gloucester County. Hilton Snowdon, Tourism Coordinator for Gloucester County, and Carol Steele, Director of Gloucester County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, were eager to share their enthusiasm about recreational opportunities in Gloucester County
Taking them alphabetically, begin with Ark Park. Ark Park is located at 7963 Number Nine Road, 2.5 miles north of Gloucester Court House on Route 17. Ark Park was created through a partnership between the Gloucester Fair Association and Gloucester County and has been the home of the Gloucester County Fair in the past, although that event will not take place this year. It is great for athletes; it features a soccer field, softball field and the only public outdoor basketball court in the county. A picnic area and restrooms are also available.
Beaverdam Park features stunning views and is a great place for the whole family; it truly has something for everyone. It has two entrances, the main entrance located at 8687 Roaring Springs Road, and the other at 9537 Fary’s Mill Road.
