Photo: An adult male bald eagle was released back into the wild on Monday morning at Beaverdam Park by the Wildlife Center of Virginia. The bird had been injured on June 9 following an altercation with an osprey on the Severn River. The bird was fished out of the water by Gordon West and taken to Sarah Drake Streetman, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. After an exam at Countryside Animal Hospital in Saluda, Christine Clendenin transported the bird to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro, where he was treated for his injuries. Here, from left, Streetman; West’s wife, Mary, and Clendenin attended the bird’s return into the wild, along with Dr. David McRuer, director of veterinary medicine at the Wildlife Center. A crowd gathered to watch McRuer release the bird. Photo by Charlie Koenig
