A complete new roof structure, extensive repair to the bell tower, plastering work, and repairs to graves brings the tornado damage bill to an estimated $80,000 for the church.
The Rev. Leonard Marble, co-pastor with his wife Medina, said the good news is that an engineer has found the church to be structurally sound; another bit of good news is that none of its members had severe damage at their homes.
Glen Roy barbecue boost
As church trustees work with insurers, the repair effort will get a large boost on Saturday from a fundraising barbecue at Glen Roy Plantation in Ware Neck.
Sponsored by The Fairfield Foundation, the afternoon of Civil War stories and music will be held from 2-6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance (Wild Rabbit Café or by calling 210-9328) and $15 at the gate.
