As the Tour de Chesapeake rolls into Mathews byways on Saturday, May 19, there will be many community events for cyclists and residents to enjoy.

"We wanted to make sure nobody was left out of such a fun weekend," said event director Lynda Greve.

The first ever Made in Mathews "Art deTour" will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20. Similar to its fall cousin Open Studio Tour, the Art de Tour will feature more than a dozen local artists who will open their studio doors for visitors to see where they create the treasures of their vast and varied collections. Brochures and maps are available on Main Street at the Mathews Visitor Center and Bay School of the Arts, as well as online at www.madeinmathews.com.

A Bike Safety Rodeo will be offered for kids from 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Mathews Boys and Girls Club. It is open to anyone with a bike and free to all participants. The event is sponsored by the Mathews Family YMCA, Mathews Sheriff’s Office and the Mathews Boys and Girls Club. For more information, call Sheila Pillath at 725-1488.
