The Gloucester County Health Department reported its third positive rabies case of 2010 recently.
A 51-year-old Kilmarnock woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 17 just south of Gloucester Court House on Saturday night.
Though no formal vote was taken, a majority of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voiced support for a switch to categorical funding for the county’s school system during a joint work session between the two boards on Tuesday night in the Gloucester Library’s community room.
A ban on open burning has been adopted for Mathews County until further notice.

Approximately 15 people attended a town meeting Sept. 14 at Abingdon Elementary School to discuss improving the business climate in lower Gloucester, said Christi Lewis, the county’s Director of Community Education who coordinated the meeting.
