What a spread! Homemakers’ gift of recipe ideas—2011 edition
For another year, and it is hoped it will continue for many more years to come, the Central Village Homemakers are extending their holiday greeting to all—with recipes. This organization of 45 members was the first homemakers club established in Mathews. Over these 37 years the members’ contributions to the community have been endless. They have awarded a scholarship each year, contributed to all the worthy causes such as the Christmas Blessing Fund, Laurel Shelter, Pennies For Pets, Rescue Squad, Fire Department, to mention only a few; and they also make sure that school children continue to have field trips. Their Mathews Market Days booth is a favorite spot for shopping for all who attend.
Homemaker clubs were established in Virginia in 1923 to provide education on family and women’s issues as well as provide opportunities for leadership development within the community. The Central Village Homemakers have far exceeded the state’s goals.
