On this Sunday
We are often told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What could be a more perfect gift for your mom on Mother’s Day than to serve her breakfast in bed? It’s a dream many have and it could be the best homemade gift your mother could receive.
Come Sunday, whether it’s Dad, children or both who wish to treat Mom like a queen, here are some suggestions on how to make it memorable for all the right reasons.
First, arrange kid-friendly duties: if children are involved, patience is number one. Running through the recipes beforehand helps determine which child gets which jobs, depending upon their age, maturity, abilities and manual dexterity. They can be great help with lots of basic cooking tasks. Cracking eggs, gently stirring, scooping batter into muffin tins, buttering toast, spooning jam and helping set the breakfast tray are but a few major duties they can do and do well.
As executive chef, Dad can select a menu that Mom really loves. He above all should know what she likes best. Be sure to keep in mind that make-ahead dishes can speed up the morning activities and keeping it simple is a better plan. Consider bed-friendly fare. No one wants to close out a beautiful surprise with sheets and pillowcases filled with crumbs. Do all you can ahead of time. Leave as little as possible as last-minute work. Have the breakfast tray, making sure it’s a stable one, set up and hidden. Dad, make sure you carry the tray into Mom’s room. It’s much safer.
