The Super Bowl has been an American tradition since 1967 and we definitely show our love for it by eating and partying whenever and wherever the game is played.

The game day is now called Super Bowl Sunday and is considered to be a holiday for many Americans. Whether it is attended at game site, listened to or watched in the comfort of your own home, at a pub or restaurant, there are always one or more food items at arm’s length and a beverage to make it all go down nicely. Food has become a vital part of Super Bowl Sunday and it looks like it’s going to remain that way. Did you know that the second largest day for food consumption in the U.S. is Super Bowl Sunday? The day is second only to Thanksgiving, but number one in snack food indulgence.

Super Bowl snack food consumption totals will double the amount eaten on an average day: 4,000 tons of tortilla chips; 4,000 tons of popcorn and tons of potato chips are snarfed. During the 2006 Super Bowl, viewers ate 49.5 million pounds of avocados, enough to cover Ford Field in Detroit end zone to end zone in more than 11.8 feet of guacamole. On Super Bowl Monday, sales of antacids are 20% higher than the average Monday.
